OUR STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN STATE TESTING

If you have school age child chances are you already know the drill. Vancleave along with other schools in the state are participating in state wide testing this month. The teachers and children have practiced and drilled and are about to enter into hours of testing. The school prepare with pep rallies and let the kids and parents know. Get plenty of rest, eat a good breakfast and be on time. If possible schedule your child's Dr's appointments and other absences around the state tests.  These test will help determine the ratings of Vancleave Schools and students compared to others in the State.  They have worked hard and prepared. I am sure as always they will do just great.

April 2- Mull Pull Opening Parade, stops traffic and brings smiles to on lookers.

It almost felt as if you were stepping back a few generations as you watched, riders on horseback, in buggies and drawn carriages traversing good Old Hwy 5, escorted by the Sheriffs department and being considerate to drivers the Mull Pull parade "pulled over" a time or two as to not slow down traffic. But drivers couldn't  help but stare. Onlookers waited along the road side, parking lots filled with people and daycare children with signs anxiously awaited for the show to come by. Some riders threw beads, and some riders like the gentlemen I saw on the oxen well they just threw  their hands in the air, watching them maneuver 2 oxen down Hwy 57 in the middle of the day on a Friday, made me sit back and realize just how convenient things are now days, and how much we all take for granted.  For example, I was able to get from the Hancock Bank area, to the Upper Elementary run in and do my business after what I thought took forever then back before they made it past the Food Tiger.  Associations like the Old Time Mull Pull and Festival are well worth our communities time and support. Even if you aren't an equestrian, or a farmer, find time to stop by, and watch the events and the people working with these fabulous creatures, all the while try to remember there's a pretty darn good chance that several of your ancestors did what these people are doing this weekend almost every day of their lives.  So when you can't find the remote, or you need to wait over 25 minutes to get your oil changed, remember we really don't have it too bad these days...... Check the goVancleave.com Calendar to find out dates and times of the Festival.

Events like barrel racing, mull pull, timed racing, and much more all take place under the newly covered arena, comfortable bleachers and great lighting make this event great for all ages through out the day and evening.
A midway is filled with crafts and foods to cater to any taste.
Take the time to step back in time, and appreciate the show and a wonderful time.

April 5-9, Look out Spring here come our Kids
That's right as of 3 something pm on April 2nd, our Vancleave kids got released from school to enjoy this wonderful weather. This time gives families a chance to be together, kids to "work out" their cabin fever, and teach to catch up and hopefully rest a little bit. The students are scheduled to return to normal class schedules on Monday April 12, giving them 9 full days that are school free. Many families choose this time to travel or vacation. Please everyone, remember to be safe and alert on our road ways with increased tourism during this time, and other "fun seekers" on the roads. Have a great Spring Break from GCIS.
March 2004 by Sandi Kirk - GCIS
April was a busy month for Vancleave. Among many things, we had the Ms Bow Wow woman-less beauty pageant sponsored by the Vacnleave Quarter Backs Club. Thanks to the generosity and good humor of the wonderful Men and Boys who participated it was a hilarious sucess.
More pictures can be seen on the www.vancleavebulldogs.com website.
Opening Ceremonies for Vancleave Youth Baseball.  The end of March brought a much anticipated thrill when tons of Vancleave Youth piled onto the fresh fields to participate in the Official Opening Ceremonies. Clad in their brand new, never slid to second base uniforms, they stood with pride, hats in hand to listen to Ms Susanne Davis belt out our Nations Anthem. Her ocopella version brought chills to many and a roaring round of applause. So on almost any evening stop by the baseball fields and catch a game or 2, enjoy a snack or cold drink from the concession stand and support the kids
.
